WHO we ARE and WHERE we COME FROM

It was in 1975 that a small group of worshippers got together in the Elgin Valley to worship, pray & study the Bible. The humble beginnings of a small group of believers in Rooisaal led by Gerald McCann, that would then grow steadily over the years & together build the church building you see today. Initially supported particularly by the Maree Family, local apple farmers and people living in the Grabouw Village.

The Church building is appropriately positioned at the bottom of Ou Kaapse Weg. The road is a vital link between the Town’s CBD and the Pineview area responsible for providing much of the vital manpower needed to drive the fruit industry of the Elgin Valley.

Our small congregation mirrors the makeup of the people that live in the valley. We are a predominantly English speaking congregation & affiliated with the Baptist Union of South Africa.

Most of our effort is directed at preaching the Word of God and uplifting the needs and wellbeing of our members & the people within the communities of Grabouw & the Elgin Valley.

OUR CALLING

We are the called-out ones who actively

Proclaim the good news to the poor,

Freedom to the captives and oppressed,

Recovery of sight to the blind.

We bind up the broken hearted

We are love distributors and guilt lifters

We teach and equip the saints in order

To continue the works of Jesus and

To extend His Kingdom on earth in a practical manner.

We proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

In the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writings as fully inspired of God and accepts them as the final authority for faith and life. (II Timothy 3:15-1 7 ; John 15:3 & 20:31)
In one God eternally in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (I John 5:7; I Timothy 1:17 & 3:16; Matthew 28:19)
That Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man. (Luke 1:26-35& 2:6-1 4 ; Matthew 1:18-25)
That God created man in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death; physical and spiritual; that all human beings inherit a sinful nature. (Genesis 1 :26 & 5:1; Romans 3:23 & 5:12-2 1 )
That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, a substitutionary sacrifice , according to the Scriptures and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.(Romans 5:8-11; 1 Peter 2:24; Romans 3:23 -26)
In the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven and His present Life as our High Priest and Advocate. (Matthew 28:1-1 0; Luke 24:1-12;24: 39-13; Acts 1:3, 9; Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:23-28; 9:24)
In the personality of the Holy Spirit, His regenerating work and abiding presence in every Christian. (John 16:2 6; 3:5-8; 16 :7 -1 5 ; Acts 2 :2 -4; 1 John 5:7-10)
That all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children of God. (John 3:1-21; Titus 3:5-7; Acts 2:38 ,39)
That all Christians are called to a life of holiness and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and for service for Him, for which we are exhorted to be “filled with the Holy Spirit”(Ephesians 5:25-2 7; Thessalonians 4:3,7,8; 5:23,2 4; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 5:18)
In the resurrection of the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and the eternal punishment of those who have rejected or neglected the offer of salvation. (Acts 24:15,1 6; John 5:28,2 9; 1 Corinthians 15:35-44; Matthew 25: 46; Hebrews 2:3,4)
That as the Lord Jesus Christ is the supreme and only Head of the Church Universal , that He appointed two ordinances BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER to be observed by all Christians as acts of confession and communion,. (Ephesians 4:15; Colossians 1:18; Matthew 3:13-17; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
That baptism is the immersion of the believer in water as an outward sign of an inward work wrought by the Holy Spirit in the soul; and is symbolic of the believer’s identification with the Lord Jesus Christ in His death, burial and resurrection to a new Life.(Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 2:38; 8:36-38; 16:33; Luke 7:29,30; Romans 6:1-1 1 )
The Lord’s Supper is the partaking of bread and wine as symbols of the Saviour’s broken body and His blood “shed for many for the remission of sins” thus showing forth His death and keeping Him in adoring remembrance.(1 Corinthians 10:16-22; 11:23,24)
In the priesthood of all believers.(1 Peter 2:9; Revelations 1:5,6; 5:10; 20:6)
